This is the 1994 elections poster used by the ANC, African National Congress, against the National Party and its candidate of the time: (born 18 March 1936).
The South African general election of1994 was the first free election held in South Africa after the end of apartheid and also the first held on a non-racial base and with universal suffrage. The election was conducted under the directionof the Independent Electoral Commission. We can say this because these elections were the first to have a black candidate: Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (born 18 July 1918) and were the first to be reallydemocratic in a republic close to a dictarship. 19,726,579 votes were counted and 193,081 were rejected as invalid. The ANC won the elections with the 62 % of the votes and ANC leaders opted to forma tripartite Government of National Unity with the National Party and the Inkatha Freedom Party. Now the date 27 April is a public holiday in South Africa, Freedom Day. In the bottom of the poster wecan see “VOTE ANC”, what is the ANC ?
The ANC is a national liberation movement. It was formed in 1912 to unite the African people, for nine decades the ANC has led the struggle against racism andoppression, was make a new democratic Constitution for South Africa in 1994. The new Constitution was adopted in 1996, the number of members in the National Assembly is 290 and membership of the ANC isopen to all South Africans above the age of 18 years, and the ANC don’t look the race, colour and creed but he have accept its principles, policies and programmes. The flag of the ANC is made of equalhorizontal bands of black, green and gold. The black symbolises the people of South Africa who, for generations, have fought for freedom. The green represents the land. The gold represents themineral and other natural wealth of South Africa.
