Claude Monnet : Les Coquelicots

Claude Monet was born on 14 November 1840 on the 5th floor of 45 rue Laffitte, in the ninth arrondissement of Paris.[3] He was the second son of Claude AdolpheMonet and Louise Justine Aubrée Monet, both of them second-generation Parisians. On 20 May 1841, he was baptized in the local parish church, Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, as Oscar-Claude, but his parentscalled him simply Oscar[3][4] In 1845, his family moved to Le Havre in Normandy. His father wanted him to go into the family grocery business, but Monet wanted to become an artist. His mother was a singer.The title of the painting is ‘Les Coquelicots’ by the famous artist : Claude Monet. It was painted in 1873. What first catches the eye is the red color, infact the painter has represented a poppyfield on the left. It is maybe because of his love for the landscapes and nature. In the bottom right-hand corner we can see that a woman and her child are walking across the poppy field. She is holdingan umbrella and his daughter follows her . In the upper left-hand corner we can see two people who are picking flowers. In the background there are a lot of big green trees and a house. The sky isquite cloudy in this picture. We can add that the painter focuses our attention on the dominant red flowers which creat an impression of gracefulness.
On the first of April 1851, Monet entered Le Havresecondary school of the arts. Locals knew him well for his charcoal caricatures, which he would sell for ten to twentyfrancs. Monet also undertook his first drawing lessons from Jacques-FrançoisOchard, a former student of Jacques-Louis David. On the beaches of Normandy in about 1856/1857, he met fellow artist Eugène Boudin, who became his mentor and taught him to use oil paints. Boudin taughtMonet « en plein air » (outdoor) techniques for painting.[5] Both received the influence of Johan Barthold Jongkind.
