Global Warming

What is global warming?
Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth’s near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century. The observed temperatureincrease since the middle of the 20th century has been caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases, which result from human activities for example deforestation.

How global warming isimpacting Polar Bear:
The chief threat to the polar bear is the loss of its sea ice habitat due to global warming. As suggested by its specific scientific name (Ursus maritimus), the polar bear is actuallya marine mammal that spends far more time at sea than on land. This is why global warming is such a serious threat to its well-being. As climate change melts sea ice, two thirds of polar bears willdisappear by 2050. Most dangerous is the fact that as global warming increases, Polar Bears will have a difficult time finding food. In fact, numerous polar bears are feeling the effects of a shortageof food and are facing starvation. However, there is hope. Since the Polar Bear is threatened, there is still much that we can do to help prevent irreversible tragedies from taking place and causemore global warming. Polar bear habitats must be preserved, protected, and established.

How to prevent the effects of global warming on polar bears?
The Polar Bear is adapted to living in coldenvironments. Because the Polar Bear has not just one, but two layers of fur and can survive temperatures as cold as 50 below zero Fahrenheit. In fact, the Polar Bear is so well suited for Arctic weather, that warmer climates will cause the Polar Bear to overheat. Everything from the size of the Polar Bear’s ears to his or her tail is designed to prevent heat from escaping; the Polar Bear simply cannotsurvive if the Arctic climate continues to heat up due to global warming. Global warming is the first cause the disappearing of polar bears with melt ice. It is critical that we act now to curb…
